Crossroads League Announces Athletes of The Week

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Tuesday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of Aug. 31 - Sept. 6. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.



Volleyball

Attacker of the Week

Anna Frey, Grace

Frey spearheaded Grace’s road sweep of Taylor in Saturday’s season-opener, posting 12 kills, six digs and two blocks in the win, while hitting .321 in 28 swings for the Lancers.

Defender of the Week

Kyara Black,

Spring Arbor

Black was a force at the net in Spring Arbor’s sweep of Huntington, posting a league-leading five blocks to go with eight kills and three digs in the three-set affair.

Setter of the Week

Seabring Mak,

Indiana Wesleyan

Mak opened the 2020 season in style with 46 assists and 12 digs in Indiana Wesleyan’s four-set win over Bethel on Saturday. Mak also added two kills against the Pilots.

Women’s Tennis

Player of the Week

Maddie Bemisderfer, IWU

Bemisderfer notched straight-set wins at No. 1 singles and cruised to wins at No. 1 doubles in IWU’s 7-0 victories against Spring Arbor and IU Kokomo on Saturday. Bemisderfer dropped only eight games in the four matches.

Men’s Tennis

Player of the Week

Martin Carrizo, IWU

Carrizo helped IWU to wins over Spring Arbor and MVNU with four total victories from his spot atop the Wildcat lineup. Carrizo did not drop a set in singles play, losing only five total games in the four matches.
