Offense Sputters In Volleyball Loss To Pilots

MISHAWAKA – Grace’s volleyball team could not get its offense on track in a 3-0 loss at Bethel on Wednesday.

The Lady Lancers had two more digs than the Pilots (12-3, 12-3 Crossroads League) and only one fewer kill.

But Grace committed 29 attack errors and hit at a .040 percentage.

Grace hit at a negative hitting percentage in the first and third sets, struggling to deal with Bethel’s blocking at the net. The Pilots won each of those sets 25-17.

The Lady Lancers (7-5, 7-5 CL) did have 11 kills on five errors in the second set (.200 percentage), but Bethel’s offense was even better (15 kills, .355 percentage) as the Pilots won by six.

For the match, Bethel had 12 blocks while Grace was limited to just one block.

Katie Swanson led all players with 10 kills to go along with one solo block. Gabbey Harrington led Grace in assists (26) and digs (8) while also picking up six kills.

Cassadi Colbert and Makayla Bell each had five kills, and Brittany Baize and Julia Nagy each had seven digs.

The Lady Lancers will get to end the regular season with three of its final four matches at home. On Saturday, Grace will host Goshen for a 3 p.m. contest.
