Tickets are going fast for Warsaw Community High School Select Theatre’s performance of “The Babbling Brooks” this weekend.

In fact, Director and theater teacher Dana McAfee said anyone wanting tickets to the nostalgic comedy should call ahead to make sure there’s tickets left as the shows were almost sold out as of Monday. The box office phone number is 574-371-5040.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the WCHS Black Box Theatre. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door, if any remain. There are only 40 tickets for each performance, due to the coronavirus pandemic, and masks and social distancing will be observed. There will be two intermissions during the show.

All proceeds benefit Heartline Pregnancy Center. The students in the select theater class decide each year which nonprofit will receive the money, and this year, the juniors and seniors in the class voted on Heartline.

McAfee said “The Babbling Brooks” is a “really cute” play.

Set in the 1950s, the mom in the show is a really big gossip, but her facts are seldom, if ever, right.

The daughter wants to start a newspaper so she hides a microphone in the living room to gather information. Chaos ensues in town.

There’s also two mysterious ladies renting the room above the Brooks family, and they weave themselves into the plot, McAfee said.

The sheriff in town has only been on the job for a year, but he already doesn’t get along with Mrs. Brooks.

“There’s a lot of fun, little side stories and great humor,” McAfee said.

She really wanted to make sure the select theater class was able to do a show this fall.

“I found it was really important to get some normalcy back for these kids,” she said. “They lost so much at the end of last year.”

To keep everyone safe, students have been wearing masks during rehearsals. Furniture and seating is kept adequately apart.

“It’s such an important show we do every year and I don’t want to lose it,” McAfee said.

The cast, in order of appearance, include: Elena Crawford as Betty Brooks; Isa Silva, Madge Moore; Cayla Harris, Granny Brooks; Jessica Pogue, Norma Brooks; Emma Spencer, Nettie Brooks; Ian Peloza, Homer Brooks; Jordan Norris, Hal Weston; Theo Cooke, Greg Feeter; David Howard, Don Stuart; Josie Miller, Kay Cornwell; Natalie Oler, Carol Kingsley; Maddy Morgan, Julia Parker; Marie Henn, Bonnie Burns; and Reagan Polk as Bessie Horton.
