18 Spartans Named Academic All-HCAC

CARMEL – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference has announced the spring honorees for Tom Bohlsen Academic All-HCAC.  18 Spartans earned Academic All-HCAC honors this spring.

The Black & Gold outdoor track & field program totaled 11 Academic All-HCAC recipients. Both men’s tennis and baseball produced three honorees apiece. Softball had one Academic All-HCAC honoree.

Academic All-Conference selections have at least a cumulative 3.5 GPA and are varsity athletes. The student-athlete must have completed the equivalent of a full academic year and must be a full-time enrolled student at the institution to be eligible for the Academic All-Conference award.

The award is named after Tom Bohlsen, who served as the HCAC's first commissioner from 1998 to 2008.

The following student-athletes earned a spot on the Spring Academic All-HCAC Team:

Baseball – Junior Brett Kron; sophomores Alex Morr and Zach

White.

Softball – Sophomore Mallory Sands.

Men’s tennis – Sophomores Samuel Hollingsworth and Blake Rentschler, and junior Isaac Miller.

Men’s track and field – Seniors Daniel Baker and Justin Meredith; juniors Lucas Fontanez and Conner Sherwin; and sophomore Dilyn Dewey.

Women’s track and field – Senior Bella Case; juniors Dinah Gilbert and Elizabeth Russell; and  sophomores Fiona Frost and Erica Mohr.

Warsaw Defeats NorthWood, Gets Share Of NLC Title
In what has become a rivalry between the two premier teams in the Northern Lakes Conference, the Warsaw and NorthWood volleyball teams met at the Tiger Den Thursday night for a game with major conference implications. The Lady Tigers were able to keep their perfect conference record alive, clinching at least a share of the NLC for the third straight year with a 3-0 win.

Warsaw, Wawasee Secure Spots In Sectional Finals
Three local teams made up the four spots at the IHSAA tennis sectional semifinals at Warsaw Thursday evening. With the Tigers taking on Whitko and the Northern Lakes Conference Champions Wawasee facing off against Columbia City for the two spots in Saturday’s final, there was plenty of action on the courts. In the end, the two NLC competitors were left standing after a 5-0 win for Warsaw and a 5-0 victory for the Warriors.

An Estimated 400-450 Attend Historical Walk At Oakwood Cemetery
Sexton Hal Heagy told the Oakwood Cemetery Board of Regents Thursday that there were an estimated 400 to 450 people that attended the A Walk Through Our Past historic walk on Sept. 14.
