Mermaid Festival, Winona Art Fair, Akron 4th Of July Celebration Cancelled

The cancellations are due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb’s emergency orders.
The North Webster Lions Club “regrettably announced” that the 75th Mermaid Festival scheduled for June 24-27, 2020, was rescheduled for June 23-26, 2021.
The Akron Chamber of Commerce announced the Akron Fourth of July parade, fireworks and associated events scheduled for July 4, 2020, was postponed. The parade will move to the Akron Summer’s End Festival slated for Sept. 26, 2020. The fireworks will not take place in 2020 but will be held with a possible bigger display at the 2021 Akron Fourth of July festivities, according to a news release from the Chamber.
The third event cancelled for this year is the 20th Annual Village at Winona Art Fair. Next year, the event is scheduled for June 5-6.
In its news release, the North Webster Lions Club said that due to the current mandate by Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, “we are not allowed to have the Mermaid Festival on the dates as planned. We looked to see if we could move it later in the summer, but with the uncertain climate and possibility of vendors and entertainment not being available, we have no choice but to delay for a year.”
The Lions Club asks people to visit its Facebook page or website to look for single-day events the Club plans to hold beginning in July.
In announcing the cancellation of the Akron Fourth of July events, the Chamber’s news release states, “Out of the utmost care, compassion and concern for the residents of Akron and neighboring residents due to the current conditions and risks from the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Akron Chamber of Commerce, Akron Fourth of July Committee and with the support of the Akron Town Council, jointly announce that the Akron Fourth of July Parade, Akron Fireworks, and associated events scheduled for July 4, 2020, have been postponed.”
Akron was founded on July 4, 1836, by 47 settlers seeking new lands in what was then an uncharted wilderness. To celebrate their courage and resilience, Akron has hosted one of the largest Fourth of July parades in the state of Indiana since 1961, the release states.

The Village at Winona, in Winona Lake, announced it “is extremely saddened to announce the postponement of the 20th annual Village at Winona Art Fair. This would have been the 20th year in 2020. Please reserve next year’s date for June 5 and 6, 2021.”
Despite the art fair’s postponement, the community is still invited to come together June 6, 2020, “to celebrate a beautiful day on the shores of Winona Lake. The Village’s unique artisan shops and restaurants will be open, and free parking will be available throughout The Village,” according to a provided news release.
