AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced Monday, recognizing the top athletes from March 2-8. Sports information directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Men’s Basketball

Kyle Mangas,

Indiana Wesleyan

The Crossroads League Player of the Year was at it again for No. 2 IWU in the League Tournament Cha-mpionship game, this time netting 25 points, six assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block in IWU’s victory over Bethel.

Women’s Basketball

Abby Downard, Marian

Downard posted 16 points, nine assists, five steals and three rebounds to help No. 2 Marian top No. 7 Taylor in the Crossroads League Tournament Champi-onship game. In addition to stuffing the box score, Downard sank five-of-nine field goal attempts, including three triples.

Baseball - Pitcher

Luke Tucker,

Mount Vernon Nazarene

Tucker picked up two wins on the bump for Mount Vernon Nazarene, fanning 15 batters over 13 innings with just two earned runs allowed. The freshman righty saw only 12 base runners total and posted a 1.38 earned-run average.

Baseball - Player

Brant Mast,

Spring Arbor

Mast highlighted Spring Arbor’s 6-1 week, hitting .524 with 10 runs, two doubles, two home runs and 11 runs batted in. The third baseman also posted a .655 on-base clip and slugged .955 on the week, while homering in the Cougars’ 5-2 upset of No. 2 St. Thomas.

Softball  - Pitcher

Sydney Wilson, Marian

Wilson logged 25.2 innings in six games of work for No. 4 Marian, going 3-1 in the circle with a 0.55 earned-run average. The lefty sophomore fanned 17 hitters and allowed only four walks.

Softball  – Player

Miranda Wehrle, IWU

Wehrle continued her hot start at the plate for No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan, hitting .405 with two homers, three doubles, 10 runs batted in and eight runs scored in 10 games for the Wildcats.

Men’s Tennis

Patrick Doerr, SAU

Doerr went 6-1 overall for Spring Arbor with three wins at No. 6 singles and three wins in four matches at No. 2 doubles. The senior helped SAU post a 3-1 record on the week.

Women’s Tennis

Sela Clifford,

Spring Arbor

Clifford had a busy week for Spring Arbor, going 5-1 at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles for the Cougars.

Warsaw Defeats NorthWood, Gets Share Of NLC Title
In what has become a rivalry between the two premier teams in the Northern Lakes Conference, the Warsaw and NorthWood volleyball teams met at the Tiger Den Thursday night for a game with major conference implications. The Lady Tigers were able to keep their perfect conference record alive, clinching at least a share of the NLC for the third straight year with a 3-0 win.

Warsaw, Wawasee Secure Spots In Sectional Finals
Three local teams made up the four spots at the IHSAA tennis sectional semifinals at Warsaw Thursday evening. With the Tigers taking on Whitko and the Northern Lakes Conference Champions Wawasee facing off against Columbia City for the two spots in Saturday’s final, there was plenty of action on the courts. In the end, the two NLC competitors were left standing after a 5-0 win for Warsaw and a 5-0 victory for the Warriors.
