NORTH MANCHESTER – Second-ranked Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian boys basketball cruised to a 75-52 victory Wednesday night over Whitko in the Class 2A North Manchester Sectional opening round game.

Despite the lopsided final score, Wildcat junior Brett Sickafoose finished with 35 points against the Braves. Twenty-five of those points of those points came in the second half.

Junior Drake Lewis and senior Clayton Ebbinghouse recorded eight and six points respectively.

Despite only being down 10-7 after the first quarter, Whitko was unable to put together consistent offense heading into halftime.

Caleb Furst, a junior who made an oral commitment to Purdue on Monday, came in averaging almost 30 points and 14 rebounds a contest. Furst was held to 18 points but still got his 14 rebounds as he spearheaded an offense with too many options for the Wildcats to handle.

Boilermaker head coach Matt Painter was in attendance for the night’s contest to watch his recruit.

When Furst was guarded heavily, Blackhawk junior co-captain Zane Burke rarely missed. The shooter was on fire behind the arc, and he knocked down 25 total points throughout the game.

Whitko’s concludes the season with a 10-13 record. Fort Wayne Blackhawk (23-1), who came into the tournament as a heavy favorite, now faces South Adams (13-10) in a sectional semifinal at around 7:30 p.m. Friday. The other semifinal has Three Rivers Conference champion Wabash (19-4) taking on Fort Wayne Canterbury (11-11) at 6 p.m.

The sectional title game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
