Hall Insurance Celebrates 5 Generations & 100 Years

For five generations, the Hall family has been synonymous with insurance in the Warsaw area.

“We’ve been blessed because of the community, first. We’ve had great employees. We have great employees ... that really care about not only their job, but taking care of people, building relationships and giving back to the community,” Mike Hall said in an interview Thursday afternoon.

William Robert “W.R.” Hall opened the Hall-Spencer Insurance Agency in 1920 in Warsaw. Two years later, the agency welcomed Rol Anglin and was renamed the Hall-Anglin Insurance Agency.

In the 1940s, W.R.’s son, W. Robert Hall, assumed ownership of the agency and operated under the name W. Robert Hall Agency.

W. Robert Hall hired Art Marose in 1958. John Hall, W. Robert’s son, started his insurance career in 1963 at the agency, and in that year the agency became Hall & Marose Insurance Agency.

Mike Hall – the fourth generation of Halls – joined the agency in 1992. Kevin Marose, a second-generation Marose, had joined the agency in 1989.

John Hall retired in the mid-2000s, according to Mike Hall, but Mike’s son Mitchell – the fifth generation – joined in late 2019.

In 2013, the Hall & Marose Insurance Agency and Silveus Insurance Partners LLC, merged to form Hall & Marose Silveus LLC.

Mike said he and his wife “bought the Silveus folks out a year ago, August of 2019.” They renamed the business W.R. Hall Insurance Group LLC after the original founder, W.R. Hall.

He said the Hall insurance business has existed for five generations because of how they operate and get involved in the community and, “The community has blessed us as well. We’re just fortunate to live in an area that we live and work in because of the caringness.”

The insurance business has changed “a lot” over the years just like anything else, Mike said. “We continue to build and expand upon the relationships, hopefully the expertise and the service, to our existing clients and our future ideal clients.”

W.R. Hall Insurance Group specializes in property and casualty insurance, both personal – home and auto – and then commercial insurance, which is business insurance. The agency does business in lower Michigan, northern Indiana to the Ohio and Illinois lines, as well as down to Indianapolis. Mike said they have clients in other states as well.

There are 18 full-time employees that include agents and customer service representatives.

“It’s extremely important,” Mike said of customer service. “If you don’t have service, then you really don’t have it, period.”

Not only does W.R. Hall Insurance Group have long-standing relationships with the insurance companies that it represents, “being an independent agency, we have many insurance companies that we work with. One of them truly does date back to 1920,” Mike said, referring to what is now Liberty Mutual, formerly Indiana Insurance Co.

Looking toward the future, Mike said, “Growth is definitely part of our plan, bringing in the next generation. Bringing in great employees. We definitely want to grow and be able to provide our services and build upon relationships that we currently have. We want to grow with still a local touch.”

He said they also love to support the nonprofit organizations, financially and with their time.

“Giving back to the community is extremely important as the community supported us over the years. We definitely love to give back,” Mike said.

Some of the entities that they support include Baker Youth Club, Beaman Home, Combined Community Services, Salvation Army, Animal Welfare League, Optimist Club, Rotary Club, Kiwanis and the Lions Club.

He said they’re really starting to promote their business more on social media as that’s the direction everyone seems to be going in.

“We try to stay ahead of the times, as we realize times are changing we try to be proactive with that approach,” Mike said, noting they have a website, Facebook page and Linked In. “We still rely on the relationship piece to it.”

W.R. Hall Insurance Group has been located at 1021 Mariners Drive, Warsaw, since 2013. Previously, the business was downtown Warsaw since 1920.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of their legacy, the business plans to have an open house and client appreciation luncheon.

“We’re going to have giveaways, a raffle with proceeds going to local charities and not-for-profits. We’re going to have raffle prizes, a luncheon,” he said, planned for the end of September.

“We’re just very fortunate to be a part of a great community that’s been very supportive of us, of the business. We’re blessed,” Mike concluded.
