Spartans Sweep HCAC Track & Field Weekly Awards

Sam Barnard, Brian Hochstetler, Emily Ewen and Kendal Garringer all picked up the weekly award from the league office.
Barnard was named the HCAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week following a first-place finish in the 5000 meters at Sean Brady/Keith Turner Alumni Open. Barnard posted a top time of 15:47.28.
Hochstetler earned HCAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week after winning the shot put on Saturday. Brian led the field with a top throw of 14.19 meters (46' 6.75"). His distance over the weekend stands as the fifth-best distance in Manchester history.
Ewen was tabbed as the HCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. Emily earned an event win for the Black & Gold on Saturday afternoon by claiming the top spot in the 5000 meters. Ewen crossed the finish line with an overall time of 19:48.06.
Freshman Kendal Garringer rounded out the awards for Manchester on Tuesday afternoon. Garringer was named the HCAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Kendal, competing in her first collegiate meet, earned a runner-up finish in the triple jump. Garringer posted a mark of 8.90 meters (29' 2.5") in the event.
She also added a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.47 meters (4" 9.75"). Garringer's mark over the weekend was tied for eighth best in school history.
The Spartans will travel to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to compete in the "Friday Night Spikes" meet. Friday's meet will begin around 5:15 p.m.
