INDIANAPOLIS — Dylan Stroud got a chance to stand on the awards podium at the 82nd annual IHSAA State Finals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, which concluded its two-day run Saturday.

The Manchester Junior/Senior High School wrapped his sophomore season by placing eighth at 126 pounds. The experience just made him hungry for future mat opportunities.

“I wrestled a lot of tough competition,” said Stroud. “I’m ready for next year.

“I’ll probably take off about two weeks and get back at it (in off-season folkstyle and freestyle workouts and meets).” He placed second at the 2019 Frosh-Soph State championships.

Stroud (40-3) experienced the only three losses of his 2019-20 high school season Saturday.

He rallied from a 7-1 deficit in the first period and cut the lead to 7-6 in the third before falling 7-5 to Warren Center junior David Pierson III in the quarterfinals.

“I learned to keep wrestling and wrestle smart,” said Stroud, who rallied from behind to win in the first round Friday.

Chesterton freshman Aidan Torres topped Stroud 6-1 in the wrestlebacks.

Monrovia junior Ben Dalton pinned Stroud in 24 seconds in the seventh/eight place consolation match.

Indianapolis Cathedral (102 points) won it third straight team title.
