Manchester Football?Coach Miller Steps Down

The statement read “Manchester High School announces the resignation of head football coach Greg Miller. Coach Miller has cited personal and family reasons as the cause of the resignation. He does ask for privacy to the specific details with this decision.
“In a very emotional conversation with the team this week, Coach Miller spoke to the guys from the heart about his difficult decision. His time, commitment, and priorities have changed over the past few years. He concluded with a message of love, brotherhood, and family as he embraced them all with one final hug.
“He will hand over the reigns after seven seasons at Manchester HS. He went 22-49 for the Squires over that time. His career record is 74-96 after 9 seasons at North Miami before coming to Manchester HS.”
Screeton also added “Coach Miller is truly loved by those around him. His staff and players embrace the mission of BROTHERHOOD and the bond he generates inside his program is tremendous. This program is about people, relationships, and making each other better. It has been a real honor working with Greg and a real pleasure to watch him develop our young Squires into quality young MEN. Manchester HS Athletics would like to THANK Coach Miller for his passion during his tenure."
Miller was the dean of head coaches in the Times-Union coverage area, and his resignation mean all six schools in the coverage area have new head coaches within the end of the 2016 season. Triton’s Rodney Younis stepped away from his position after the 2013 season, but took over again after Ron Brown left following the 2018 campaign.
Tippecanoe Valley’s Steve Moriarty becomes the area’s longest tenured coach, entering his fourth season this fall.
Screeton did not mention a timetable for Miller’s replacement.
Wildcats Break Century Mark In Rout Of North Miami
SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko’s boys basketball team eclipsed the century mark for the second time in three seasons Wednesday night in a 101-57 win over visiting North Miami in a Three Rivers Conference game.
On Feb. 1, 2018, the Wildcats won 103-44, also in a home game over North Miami.
Brett Sickafoose led five Whitko scorers in double figures with 27 points. Clayton Ebbinghouse had 21 points, William Rickerd 17, Kyler Bryant 14 and Drake Lewis 11 in the winning effort.
The rest of the Wildcat scoring was done by Cameron Sapp (6 points), Aiden Hoffman (3) and Ryan Brown (2).
There was no junior varsity game.
Whitko is 8-10 overall, but sits in third place in the TRC at 5-2. On Friday the Wildcats host first-place Wabash (15-3, 7-0), with tipoff set for 7:45 p.m.
The Wildcats will this host Churubusco (11-6) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in a non-conference game.
LCA Falls In Final Conference Game
SOUTH BEND – Seth Martin had 20 points and eight rebounds, and Cameron Shepherd added 11 points for Lakeland Christian Academy in its 74-40 loss at Career Academy of South Bend in the Cougars final Hoosier Plains Conference game of the season Thursday.
Matthew Helton added five points, with Peter Koller and Silas Gagnon adding two points each for LCA.
Career Academy also won the junior varsity game 54-24 over the Cougars.
Lakeland Christian (5-17, 1-3 HPC) closes out its regular season tonight, hosting Oregon-Davis.
