Visiting Anderson Downs Lady Spartans

Anderson used a 12-0 run that spanned the third and fourth quarters to seize control of Wednesday’s game. The Ravens led by as much as 17 points following a jumper by Hanna Ault at the 2:28 mark of the fourth quarter.
Manchester struggled to capitalize on its offensive opportunities throughout Wednesday’s game. MU finished 12-51 (23.5%) from the field and shot 5-21 (23.8%) from 3-point territory. The Spartans also finished 10-17 (58.8%) at the free throw line.
Anderson was held to 35.2% (19-54) shooting on Wednesday night, however, the Ravens finished 43 percent (6-14) from 3-point distance and shot 78.6% (11-14) from the charity stripe.
Payton Moore led Anderson with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Hanna Ault added 13 points and nine rebounds.
Senior Nicole Weaver was the lone Spartan to score in double figures, finishing with 11 points. Hannah Lindsey grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Manchester (8-16, 5-12 HCAC) will host Earlham College at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Spartans will honor their senior class prior to tip with the Quakers.
Spartan MBB Falls To Ravens In HCAC Play
ANDERSON– Rival Anderson University led wire-to-wire and topped the visiting Manchester Spartans 94-70 on Wednesday night in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball action.
The Ravens offense proved difficult to contain on Wednesday as Anderson shot a blistering 64% (32-50) from the floor and 62.5 percent (10-16) from deep. Anderson also made 20 of its 25 free throw attempts for an 80 percent clip.
The Spartans were limited to 37% (24-65) shooting on Wednesday evening.
Junior Matthew Westman finished with 22 points and made six of Manchester’s 12 3-pointers. Fellow junior CJ Hampton chipped in 16 points. DeMoines Whitney ended Wednesday’s game with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Manchester (8-16, 6-11 HCAC) will host Earlham College at 4 p.m. Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena. The Spartans will honor their senior class prior to tip with the Quakers.
