MARION - Grace’s men’s basketball team could not pick up a second straight upset, falling 110-96 at No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday.

Just one game remains in the regular season. The No. 23 Lancers will end the season on Saturday at home in the regular season finale.

Grace will host Mt. Vernon Nazarene for a doubleheader at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center. The women’s game will start at 1 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 3 p.m.

Saturday will also be Senior Day to honor Grace’s graduating class.

The Lancers (18-11, 10-7 CL) wiIl finish either third or fourth in the league standings, depending on Saturday’s results. Grace has already secured a home game in the CL Tournament on Feb. 26.

On Tuesday, defense seemed optional for teams to start the contest. The sides were electric on offense after tipoff.

After four minutes of play, 23 combined points had already been scored. Charlie Warner hit three early shots for seven points.

Soon after, Myles Johnson gave Grace a spark with a 3-pointer and two tough hoops inside for another seven points.

The Wildcats (25-4, 15-2 CL) made seven of their first eight field goals, however, to maintain a small lead.

With 10 minutes remaining in the half, Grace trailed 30-27.

The Lancers still found themselves behind 42-38 with 4:30 left, but the Wildcats were about to erupt. IWU scored 14 points over the final four minutes, pulling ahead 56-45 by halftime.

At the half, each team shot over 50 percent from the floor. The Wildcats made an impressive 61 percent compared to 53 percent for the Lancers.

IWU also hit half of its 3-pointers (6-of-12) while Grace struggled to a 3-for-12 performance (25 percent).

Grace had three players score in double figures during the first half, including 12 from Warner and 11 apiece from Haden Deaton and Matt Jennings.

Grace could not maintain its offense to start the second half. The Lancers made only one field goal for the first six minutes of the half.

The Wildcats took advantage of Grace’s slow start, grabbing an 80-52 lead to stun the Lancers.

Grace struggled to make a significant push at IWU’s cushion.

Jaret Sons refused to go down quietly. The senior poured in 13 points over a five-minute span. He hit three 3-pointers during his outburst.

His last two free throws brought Grace to within 13 at 99-86 with 3:37 remaining. But the Lancers were unable to come closer and lost by 14.

Warner finished with 26 points, shooting 8-of-11 from the floor, 4-of-5 on 3-pointers and 6-of-7 on free throws. He also had six boards and three assists.

Jennings scored 21 points with three assists, Deaton tallied 17 points, and Sons hit a trio of 3-pointers for his 15 points.

Johnson had nine points with two blocks, and Braxton Linville chipped in five points and three assists.
