Rage Therapy Will Let Customers ‘Break Stuff’

Ashley Finney and her family are opening Rage Therapy, 818 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw, within the next month.
“It’s a place where you can go break stuff to get your frustration out,” Finney said of the rage room. She said she and her husband Mike, son Tyler Kingle-Olinger and nephew Reese Bause saw a rage room on TV a month ago and then Googled how to open one up.
They rented the space on Winona Avenue, which used to just be an old garage and have been turning it into a space with shelves and two rage rooms.
Customers will be able to go in and select what they want to break and what they want to break the items with. For example, a customer can choose to swing a sledgehammer, baseball bat, crowbar or golf club. Then the customer will choose “a la carte” items to break: dishes, beer bottles, flat-screen TVs, computers, lamps, mirrors, copy machines, printers, washing machines, just to name a few. Eventually, customers also can choose to bang up cars, Finney said. Both rage rooms are connected to full-size garage doors.
Rage Therapy has been receiving donations for the items to break, and Finney and her family have become pretty good at trash digging, she said, saying that’s the worst part of it. She also buys items from local internet buy, sell trade groups, but said she sometimes runs into a seller who doesn’t want to sell it to her once she tells them it’s going to a rage room.
Warsaw Area Computer Doctor donated the computers to be smashed; Bar 13 in Pierceton donated old beer bottles; and other businesses in the county have provided items, Finney said. They also have a car from Lucky 7 that they’ll be rolling in soon.
Customers will be required to wear a paintball helmet, which covers the face, she said, along with long pants, long sleeves, shoes with toes and heavy-duty gloves. Only one person is allowed in the rage room at a time, and cost will range from $1 to $25, depending on what the customer chooses to break.
Tentative hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, but those could change based on the reception the business receives, Finney said.
Right now, they’re busy putting the finishing touches on the inside of the building, including having a local artist come in and graffiti the walls.
Finney said they’re planning on having a soft opening they’re calling a “breaking in party.”
Finney said that her teenagers are juniors at Warsaw Community High School and think it’s hilarious how excited their friends are for Rage Therapy to open.
“Warsaw kind of lacks in something to do,” Finney said. “Spending money locally matters.”
