A dominating interior presence combined with stifling defense helped the Warsaw Lady Tigers knock off visiting Columbia City 55-38 Tuesday night.

Three steals in the first minute set the tone as Coach Lenny Krebs’ crew took a 5-0 lead and never looked back.

Senior forward Audrey Grimm had 7 of the team’s first 13 points and led all scorers with 17.

At 6’2, junior center Abby Sanner dominated the paint while finishing with 10 points and countless intimidations.

Warsaw led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Three more steals to start the second quarter and a series of drives to the basket by Bailie Stephens, Kensie Ryman, Kendall Wayne, and Grimm, plus a trey by Ryman kept Warsaw ahead 25-23 at halftime.

Grimm resumed her scoring barrage before the Eagles made back some ground to keep the game within reach at  42-34 at end of the third.

The fourth quarter saw Warsaw crank it up and go on a 13-4 run to close the door on a good Columbia City squad, who had entered the game with a 7-2 record.

A driving layup by Kacilyn Krebs, who finished with 11,  made the final margin 55-38.
