Ault Named To Silver Anniversary Team

The team includes 13 members named to the 1996 Indiana All-Star squad. Five other all-state players are included to recognize the top of Indiana’s high school class of 1996.
1996 Indiana All-Stars include Mr. Basketball Ault, Ben Anderson, Lee Coomler, Jaraan Cornell, Carson Cunningham, Andrew Graves, Chris Hahn, Mickey Hosier, Michael Lewis, Gary McQuay, Greg McQuay, LaMont Roland and Carl Sykes.
The remaining five, named to various all-state teams are Duane Clemens, Brian McCauley, Jeff Poisel, Yon Price and B.J Watts.
Ault, named 1996 Mr. Basketball, was second in the state in scoring at 30.1 points per game and led Warsaw to a final four appearance in the state tournament. He remains the all-time leading scorer at WCHS.
Ault went on to star at Missouri State where he was a rare four-year starter for the Bears, playing three years for coach Steve Alford and competing as a senior for coach Barry Hinson.
Ault's four teams from 1996 to 2000 had a combined 85-47 record and reached the championship game of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament three times in four years. The Bears were 24-9 when Ault was a freshman and won 22 and 23 games his final two seasons.
The Warsaw native helped the Bears into the National Invitation Tournament in 1997 and 2000 and Missouri State made its deepest advance ever into the NCAA tourney in 1999 when the Bears upset Wisconsin and Tennessee to advance to the regional semifinals where they lost to top-ranked and top-seeded Duke. He was the Bears' CBS-TV player of the game in the win over Wisconsin.
Ault led the Bears in steals four times and free throw shooting twice and led the conference in free throw accuracy in 1998. He's the Bears' all-time career record holder in games played (132) and steals (243) and is 10th in career points (1,508), second in winning games (85), third in three-point field goals (254), and third in free throw percentage (.843).
Due to COVID-19 conditions, a date for the 2021 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Men’s Awards Banquet has not been set. The 2021 Men’s Silver Anniversary Team is expected to be honored during that event once a date is set.
