Workforce Development Releases County Unemployment Rates

The United States’ July 2020 labor force was 161,374,000 with 144,492,000 employed and 16,882,000 unemployed for an unemployment rate of 10.5%. That’s down from 11.2% in June 2020, but still higher than the 4.0% in July 2019.
For Indiana, the July 2020 labor force was 3,355,888, with 3,090,542 employed and 265,346 unemployed for an unemployment rate of 7.9%. That’s down from 11.1% in June, but still higher than July 2019’s 3.5%.
Kosciusko County’s July 2020 labor force was 41,433, with 38,661 employed and 2,772 unemployed for an unemployment rate of 6.7%, lower than the state and national averages. The June 2020 unemployment rate was 9.0%, while the July 2019 rate was 3.2%. For July 2019, the Department of Workforce Development lists the county’s labor force at 43,042, with 41,676 employed and 1,366 unemployed.
Looking at surrounding areas, Fulton County had an unemployment rate of 7.1% in July, down from 10.3% in June. The rate was 2.9% in July 2019.
Marshall County had an unemployment rate at 6.9% for July 2020, down from 11.1% in June 2020, but still higher than the July 2019 rate of 3.3%.
Noble County’s unemployment rate for July 2020 was 7.7%, down from 11.8% in June 2020, but still higher than July 2019’s 3.7%.
Wabash had a 6.3% unemployment rate for July 2020, down from 9.5% in June 2020, but still up from July 2019’s 3.3%.
The Elkhart-Goshen MSA unemployment rate was 8.1% in July 2020, down from 10.7% in June 2020, but still up from July 2019’s 3.8%.
South Bend-Mishawaka MSA had an unemployment rate in July 2020 of 10.1%, down from 13.3% in June 2020 but still up from July 2019’s 4.2%.
Allen County (Fort Wayne MSA) had an unemployment rate of 8.6% in July, down from 11.7% in June. The rate was 3.4% in July 2019.
