WINONA LAKE - Grace’s women’s basketball team was recognized by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) thanks to their 3.706 team GPA in 2019-20.
Among all NAIA programs, Grace’s 3.706 GPA ranked eighth in the country. When compared to all NAIA and NCAA women’s teams, the Lady Lancers ranked No. 39 as a team.
The Lady Lancers also enjoyed a record year on the court. Grace posted its best winning percentage thanks to a 19-13 record.
Grace’s impressive season was abruptly ended a week before competing in the NCCAA National Championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the 2020-21 season, the Lady Lancers will return three of their top four scorers to their fast-paced attack under head coach Dan Davis.
Warriors Beat Lakers
SYRACUSE – Wawasee Boys Tennis improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 4-1 non-conference win over the visiting Lakeland Lakers Wednesday.
Winners for the Warriors were: Holden Babb at No. 1 singles’ Zeke Keim at No. 3 singles; Grant brooks and Blaint Baut at No. 1 doubles and Devon Kuhn and Ty Banks at No. 2 doubles. All were in straight sets.
Next up for Wawasee is its opening Northern Lakes Conference match at Plymouth today.
West Noble Trims Warriors
LIGONIER – Nadia Whalen scored twice and Nondus Brown added a goal for Wawasee in its 4-3 loss to host West Noble in a non-conference girls soccer match Wednesday.
“The girls played an excellent game and we deserved to win,” said Warrior head coach Luis Carmargo. “(The) last 10 minutes we let our guard down and West Noble managed to get three goals.
“This will be a great learning experience for the girls.”
Wawasee won the junior varsity match 2-0 over the Chargers. Mikilah Wiggs and Brown scored a goal each in the win.
Wawasee will host Westview in a non-conference match Saturday.
