Wins In Doubles Play Leads Wawasee To Tennis Win Over Valley

AKRON – Wawasee won both doubles matches handily, helping the Warriors to a 3-2 win over host Tippecanoe Valley in a season-opening, non-conference boys tennis match for both teams.

At No. 1 doubles, Wawasee’s Grant Brook and Blaine Bauf defeated Annakin Petit and Ethan Hartman 6-1, 6-2, and in the No. 2 doubles match, Warriors Ty Brooks and Devon Kuhn won over Valley’s Cooper Walls and Wyatt Reiter 6-1, 6-0.

Wawasee got its third win at No. 1 singles, where Holden Babb won a second-set tiebreaker to win 6-2, 7-6 (2) over the Vikings’ Payton Mills.

Dylan Neese and Owen Kirchenstein won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, for Tippecanoe Valley. Neese won a second-set tiebreaker en route to a 4-1, 7-6 (5) win over Wawasee’s Nathan Harper. Kirchenstein needed three sets to down Zeke Keim 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Tippecanoe Valley is back in action tonight, hosting Bremen in a non-conference matchup.

Wawasee hosts the Lakeland Lakers in  a non-conference match Wednesday.

Warrior Girls Golf Defeats West Noble

SYRACUSE – Wawasee improved to 2-1 on its girls golf season with a 199-215 win over host West Noble at Maxwelton Golf Club Monday.

Wawasee had three players in the 40s for the nine-hole event: Tate Cowan at 43, Taylor Cripe at 46 and Rylee Firestone at 47. Other Warrior scores were Izy Losee 55, Ayla Torres 59 and Delaney DeLaGrange 60.

Next up for Wawasee is a three-way match with Mishawaka Marian and host Westview on Thursday.



Viking Girls Golf Beats Bremen, Falls To Pilgrims

PLYMOUTH – Tippecanoe Valley’s girls golf team finished second in a four-way match at Pretty Lake Golf Club Monday. The Vikings’ score of 212 was eight shots better than Bremen, while host Plymouth posted a 195.

LaVille did not have enough players to post a team score.

Scores for the Vikings included Kaydence Mellott, 47; Madelyn Weaver, 54, Molly Moriarty, 55; Lily Ault, 56 and Cheney Canada, 56.

Lydia Miller shot a 52 for the Viking junior varsity.  Rachel Luce, Macy Petersen and Shaylin Wilcox each shot 67 for the day.

The Vikings return to action Thursday, taking on host Warsaw at Stonehenge Golf Club.



Warriors, Lakers Play To A Scoreless Draw

SYRACUSE – Wawasee and visiting Lakeland opened their girls soccer seasons with a scoreless draw in a non-conference match Monday night at Warrior Field.

The Warriors travel to Ligonier Thursday to face West Noble in a non-conference match.



Eagles Blank Squires

COLUMBIA CITY – Manchester fell 7-0 at Columbia City in its girls soccer opener Monday.

The Squires play another non-conference match Wednesday at Mississinewa.



Trojans Drop Heartbreaker

BOURBON – After winning the first two sets, Triton lost its first volleyball match of the season 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19, 15-12 to visiting John Glenn in non-conference play at the Trojan Trench Monday.

Statistics were not available as of press time.

Triton returns to action this evening, hosting Mishawaka. Fans will not be admitted to the match, but it can be seen on the Triton Trojan YouTube channel.
