Manchester Men's Soccer Rallies Past Trine

An intense match for the full 90 minutes, the Thunder were awarded a pair of penalty kicks in the first 15 minutes of the game. Goalie Justin Winterboer stopped the first Thunder PK with a save in the 11th minute. Just three minutes later, the Thunder were able to convert their second PK of the match to grab an early 1-0 lead.
Manchester scored an equalizer in the 27th minute of the opening half. Drew Gavit scored his first goal of the 2019 season to bring the Spartans even at 1-1. Ruben Gonzalez was credited with an assist on the Gavit goal.
Manchester controlled the scoreboard for most of the second half as Josh Gonzalez scored a pair of goals to help increase the Spartans' advantage to 3-1. Josh scored in the 49th and 68th minutes. Gonzalez has scored a team-leading seven goals this year.
Trine made one final push in the closing minutes of Wednesday's contest, converting another penalty kick in the 85th minute.
The big non-conference victory moved Manchester to 3-5-1 on the season and snapped a three-game skid. Trine fell to 3-3. The Spartans will host No. 7 Calvin College at Good Field at 4 p.m. Saturday.
