Spartan Volleyball Wins Second Straight Match

The Spartans dropped the first set by a 25-19 final score, but battled back for a hard-fought, 31-29 triumph in the second set. St. Mary's narrowly took the third set 25-19, however the Spartans mustered a yet another comeback and claimed both the fourth and fifth sets by scores of 25-22 and 15-9.
Four Spartans reached double figures in kills against the Belles on Wednesday night. Helaina Walters tallied 16 kills to lead Manchester. Halle Planck added 15 kills on the evening while Kara Heckmuller finished with 14 kills. Samantha Campbell was the fourth and final Spartan to reach double figure in kills, with 12. Campbell also had six block assists.
Lauren Gandhi posted totals of 37 assists and 11 digs against the Belles. Alexandria Collins added 20 assists. Rachel Ressler led the Spartans with 23 digs. Anna Marie Lawrie finished with 21 digs on Wednesday.
With the victory, Manchester won consecutive matches for the first time on the young season and improved to 3-4. St. Mary's dropped to .500 this fall at 4-4.
MU will be back in action Wednesday in a road rematch against Kalamazoo. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
