Spartan Soccer Players Earn All-HCAC Recognition

CARMEL – The Manchester University men's soccer team had  three student-athletes honored by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Wednesday as the league announced its annual award winners.

Senior defender Nash Walker was named to the All-HCAC Second Team. Walker started 16 of the 17 games he appeared in during his final season for the Black & Gold. Nash helped the Spartans earn a third consecutive berth in the HCAC Tournament, helping MU to a 6-3 record in league play. Walker helped anchor a defense that posted four shutouts in HCAC play. He also assisted on four goals this fall.

 Junior forward Josh Gonzalez also picked up All-HCAC Second Team honors on Wednesday. Despite missing a third of the season due to a knee injury, Gonzalez finished third in the HCAC with eight goals. He led MU in goals (8), points (16), shots (40), and shots on goal (25).

 Senior defender Matthew Roop landed a spot on the Honorable Mention All-HCAC Team on Wednesday. Roop started all 16 games during his final year for the Black and Gold and served as team captain. Roop helped the MU defense post four shutouts in HCAC play.

 Manchester qualified for its third straight HCAC Tournament. The Spartans were edged in the HCAC Semifinals by eventual HCAC Champion and NCAA Tournament participant, Hanover College, by a final score of 2-0.
