DEFIANCE, Ohio – Manchester University intercepted three passes and recovered a fumble to grind past the Defiance College Yellow Jackets 19-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

After Manchester's offense getting got stopped on the one-yard line early in the first quarter, the MU defense quickly generated some points. Defiance's jet sweep was stalled in the end zone by Kobe Roberson resulting in a safety and a 2-0 Manchester advantage.

After a hectic spurt in the second quarter that saw both teams combine for four turnovers in a span of six plays, the Manchester defense was able to generate the first touchdown of the game. Defiance's Kardierre Love had his pass intercepted by Willis Sands and returned 15 yards for a touchdown. MU led 9-0 following the extra point.

Andrew Kibler connected on a 38-yard field goal attempt as time expired in the second period to give the Spartans a 12-0 advantage at the intermission.

Senior running back Donavan Henderson, Jr. once again provided the bulk of the Manchester offense. Henderson carried the ball 31 times for 216 yards and one touchdown on Saturday afternoon.

Brian Antoine led MU with five receptions for 61 yards.

Defensively, Manchester racked up 10 tackles-for-loss for 45 yards as a team. Devontay Moore continued his outstanding freshman season, tallying three sacks for 19 yards. Moore now has 10 sacks in just his first season for the Black and Gold. Moore finished Saturday's contest with four tackles-for-loss for 25 yards.

Willis Sands, Jaquan Walker and Nick Tillman registered interceptions. Senior linebacker Justin Thomas had five tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and recovered a fumble.

The Yellow Jackets were limited to 181 yards of total offense.



Moore Tabble HCAC Defensive Player Of The Week

CARMEL – For the second time this season, freshman linebacker Devontay Moore has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Moore garnered HCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 23.

This past weekend, Moore was an integral member of a Spartan defense that did a little bit of everything in Manchester's 19-0 shutout victory over Defiance College.

Continuing his outstanding freshman season, Moore tallied three sacks for 19-yards against Defiance. He also finished Saturday's contest with four tackles-for-loss for 25 yards. Moore now has 10 sacks, tops in the HCAC, in just his first season for the Black and Gold. Moore has three multi-sack games this year and leads MU with 57 tackles.

The Spartans intercepted three passes, returned an interception for a touchdown, recovered a fumble, and tallied a safety in the team's second shutout win since 2012.

Manchester will host rival Anderson University in the annual Bronze Ball game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, It will also be senior Day and the final game at historic Burt Field.



Planck Named All-Conference

CARMEL – Manchester University freshman right side hitter Halle Planck was named to the All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Confer-ence volleyball first team, as the league announced its annual award winners on Monday.

 Planck had a strong first season for the Black and Gold, leading Manchester University with 315 kills, a 3.18 kills per set average, and 59 total blocks. Planck's totals ranked eighth, seventh, and 12th, respectively, in the HCAC this year.

Playing in all 27 matches this fall, Halle was also tabbed to the HCAC All-Freshman Team. Planck reached 10 or more kills in 19 matches this season and posted a career-high 21 kills in a four-set win over Blackburn on Sept. 7.
