Manchester Women's Basketball Falls to Adrian in Season Opener

NORTH MANCHESTER – Manchester University hosted Adrian College in NCAA Division III women’s basketball action at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on Friday. The visiting Bulldogs capitalized on a 13-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to capture a 75-59 victory.

Friday’s contest was the season opener for both squads.

Manchester battled back from several early deficits and grabbed a 47-46 lead with 8:58 left to play in the fourth quarter following a free throw from Abby Walker. Adrian responded with a flurry of triples to regain the lead for good. 0Manchester was led by Nicole Weaver’s 18 points. Weaver knocked down four three-pointers and went 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. Manchester field a balanced offensive attack against the Bulldogs on Friday night as nine of the 10 Spartans who saw the floor scored at least two points.

Senior guard Haley Farris nearly matched a career-high with a game-high 11 rebounds.0For the contest, Manchester was limited to 27.9 percent (17-61) shooting from the floor. MU went 9-31 (29%) from three-point territory. The Spartans converted 69.6% (16-23) of their foul shot opportunities.

Rylee Campbell’s 17 points and five-three pointers led Adrian College on Friday night. Three other Bulldogs finished in double figures in scoring. On the night, AC shot 43.4% (23-53) from the field and 52.4 % (11-21) from downtown.

Manchester (0-1) will host the Manchester Main View Tip-Off Tournament beginning Friday. The Spartans will host MacMurray at 7 p.m. The two other teams participating in this year’s event will be Westminster (Pa.) and Kalamazoo.
