The event honoring those who have served the country will begin at 10:30 a.m. May 27 in downtown Leesburg. It will include a flag raising at the town hall by the Boy Scouts and a memorial service at Leesburg Cemetery.
The parade is open to anyone who wants to honor U.S. military veterans, said Craig Charlton, Leesburg’s street commissioner.
Participants in the parade will meet on Van Buren Street and South Pearl Street at 10 a.m. The parade will proceed south on Pearl Street, then west on Prairie Street to the cemetery.
The service at the cemetery will include a brief message, then the names of all veterans who are buried there will be read aloud, Charlton said.
He said veterans as far back as the Spanish-American War are buried in the cemetery.
For more information on the parade, call Sue Charlton at 574-453-0311, Craig Charlton at 574-527-0721 or Christina Archer at 574-453-4961.
