4th Festival Of Music Announced

By Staff Report-

WINONA LAKE – The fourth annual Grace College & The Village at Winona Festival of Music has been announced.

Running from March through December, the festival will feature local choruses and returning ensembles, as well as musicians new to the festival.  Sweetwater Sound will join Grace College, The Village at Winona and Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts in sponsoring the 2019 Festival of Music.

“This year’s festival includes 13 events with a great variety of musical genres,” said Dr. Walter Brath, Festival of Music coordinator and director of worship arts at Grace College. “From worship music to jazz, chamber music to southern gospel, and a lot in between, we hope that everyone in the community will enjoy the festival this year.”

The first event will be the Grace College Wind Ensemble Spring Concert titled “Wagon Train West: Music from the American West.” The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. March 22 in the Winona Heritage Room, 901 Park Ave., Winona Lake.

Two days later, the Grace College Lancer Chorus, Lakeland Chorus and the Festival Orchestra led by Dr. Ardis Faber will present a spring concert at 7 p.m. March 24 in the Winona Lake Heritage Room. The concert is free.

As in years past, the Festival of Music will include concerts during the Art Fair on June 1 and the annual Independence Day celebration on June 29. Chamber music will be featured during the Art Fair in the Village at Winona Pavilion, followed by a Lakeland Chorus concert that evening in the Winona Heritage Room.  The Winona Lake fireworks display on June 29 will be preceded by a patriotic Symphony of the Lakes concert in Tabernacle Park.

The Jazz Fest on July 27 will have a new sponsor and featured artist.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Sweetwater Sound as the sponsor of our jazz stage and Chicago jazz trumpeter extraordinaire Orbert Davis to perform,” said Brath. “The Jazz Fest has received great reviews and had large attendance in the past,” he continued. “This year should be the best yet.”

In August, the Booth Brothers will be back by popular demand for a southern gospel concert, and returning favorites The King’s Brass will perform a Christmas concert in December.
