The Warsaw Community High School Drama Department is presenting the comedy with a 1960s twist.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” written in 1595-96, is considered one of Shakespeare’s most popular works for the stage. Its first performance is believed to have been given Jan. 1, 1604 —well before bell bottoms and love beads.
“I chose to set it in the 1960s but kept the original text,” said Director Dana McAfee. “Costumes, sets, props will be updated for creativity and fun.”
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $6 for students and seniors, and $10 for adults.
The show is reserved seating, and tickets can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center box office during the school day, or call 574-371-5040.
“The story is set around the upcoming marriage of Duke Theseus and Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons,”?McAfee said. “The fairy kingdom is causing chaos with pranks and confusion surrounding the humans in the story. It’s very funny with memorable characters.” The cast includes Tyler McClone as Theseus; Cayla Harris, Hippolyta; Danie Miner, Egeus; Eleanor Williamson, Philostrate; Emma Spencer, Hermia; Ian Peloza, Demetrius; Luke Howard, Lysander; Katie Lauck, Helena; Abby Seese, Quince; Josh Fisher, Bottom; Theo Cooke, Flute; Keagan Rice, Starveling; Jasmine Stroup, Snout; Katie Jones, Snug; Lauren Housel, Puck; Deanna Folsom, fairy with Puck; Jordan Norris, Oberon; Sophia Schlitt, Titania; Michelle Apeland, Peaseblossom; Madi Rife, Cobweb; Josie Miller, Moth; Jessica Pogue, Mustardseed; and Kennedy Moore, Vanessa Ochoa, Natalie Oler, Isa Silva, Braxton Stewart and Hope Strunk as fairies.
Kyleigh Herring is stage manager.
