Elkhart Civic Theatre
BRISTOL – Elkhart Civic Theatre is holding auditions for “The Clean House” by Sarah Ruhl.
Auditions will be at 3 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church,, 411 W. Vistula St., Bristol, IN 46507.
A finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, The Clean House, by Sarah Ruhl, is a dramedy that blends fantasy and reality as it tells the story of five dissimilar characters and their complex relationships. These individuals include:
- Matilde, a 20-something Brazilian live-in maid who dreams of creating the perfect joke;
- Lane, a middle-aged female doctor who employs Matilde;
- Virginia, Lane’s neat-freak sister;
- Charles, Lane’s middle-aged surgeon husband; and
- Ana, an older charismatic Argentinian who is a patient of Charles, as well as his lover.
Auditions consist of readings from the script. Scripts are available for reading by calling the theatre at (574) 848-5853 during business hours (1-5:30PM, Monday-Friday). The roles for Matilde and Ana require occasionally speaking Portuguese, so those auditioning for these roles need to have facility with accents and learning a foreign language. Those auditioning for any role need to provide information about any conflicts they have during the rehearsal period, which will begin March 17.
