TERRE HAUTE – The Manchester University women's basketball team earned a hard-fought win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday night. The Spartans defeated the Fightin' Engineers by a final score of 53-49, earning their first win over RHIT since January 2017.

Manchester led 13-10 after the first 10 minutes of action of Wednesday's game. Rose-Hulman rallied in the second period, outscoring MU 13-8, to grab a slim 23-21 lead at halftime. The Fightin' Engineers outscored the Spartans by just one, 13-12, in the third period to lead 36-33. Manchester hung tough and outscored host Rose-Hulman 20-13 in the fourth quarter to grab the 53-49 victory.

The Spartans' defense converted 23 RHIT turnovers into 20 points. MU also held the Fightin' Engineers to just 19-of-48 (39.6%) shooting for the game. Manchester held Rose-Hulman to just 2-of-10 shooting from three-point territory.

The Spartans were limited to 32.7% (16-of-49) shooting on Wednesday. Manchester took advantage of its free throw shooting opportunities, shooting 77% (17-of-22) from the free throw line as a team. Both Haley Farris and Nicole Weaver made several clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Spartans.

Senior Nicole Weaver led the Spartans with 17 points. Weaver finished 6-of-12 from the floor and made two three-pointers. Weaver also made 3-of-4 foul shot attempts, including a pair of free throws with four seconds left to play to ice the game. Sophomore Macy Miller chipped in 11 points and six rebounds. Miller finished 7-of-10 from the charity stripe.

Both Nosa Igiehon (16 points) and Hannah Woody (10 points) scored in double figures to lead the Fightin' Engineers.

The Spartans (4-4, 1-2 HCAC) ended a two-game skid after their victory against the Fightin' Engineers. Rose-Hulman fell to 1-7, 0-3 HCAC with the loss.

Manchester will depart for Christmas Break. The Spartans will return to action at 5 p.m.  Dec. 29 against Ohio Northern in the Hoops for Hope Classic hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
