Learn To Research Family Roots In Webster

Starting next week, the classes will be held at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the month. Taught by the library’s local history and genealogy center director Beth Smith, the course will teach you how to search for information online and in libraries, courthouses and other sources.
You will also learn the standards for genealogy, research techniques, and how to interpret and organize the information you find. The course is free, but advance registration is required.

Other October Activities
Also on Tuesday, the library is starting a new knitting and crocheting group that will meet 2:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month.
Called Knit 1, Crochet 2, the group is for experienced knitters and crocheters as well as those who want to learn how. Those with experience are invited to bring their yarn projects to the library to work on while enjoying the company of others.
Learners should bring two size 8 knitting needles and a skein of Sugar ‘n Cream brand yarn (available in most stores) for making a kitchen dish cloth.
Linda Minnick will be on hand at the first session to help beginners. This class is for adults only.

Field Trip
Join the library on a field trip to Nappanee Monday. Leaving the library at 9 a.m., the group will travel by carpool to visit the Nappanee Center Museum that tells the story of Nappanee through permanent, rotating and special displays.
The next stop will be Coppes Commons, a collection of specialty shops selling locally made products located in the historic Coppes Kitchens factory building. After a lunch stop, the group will head north to the Wakarusa Dime Store, home of the Jumbo Jellybean and other nostalgic candies.
To come along, you must sign up in advance at the circulation desk or call 574-834-7122. Bring money for lunch and shopping. The field trip is for adults only.

Registrations are currently being accepted for the next Coffee and Canvas 10:30 a.m. Oct. 13.
Karla Hayden will talk about how to paint a wooden “Happy Fall” sign. Cost is $20 and includes a 12” x 12” wood plaque and painting supplies. Advance registration with non-refundable payment is due by Oct. 11. Sign up and pay at the circulation desk. This is an adults only event.
