Planning Costumes For Winter Carnival Begins

By Library Lovers-Syracuse Public Library-

Costumes make a good party great, so now might be the time to plan the outfits for the Winter Carnival dance, where the theme is “Masquerade.”

Tuesday and Wednesday are two fun-filled evenings of dress-up and partying at the Syracuse Public Library. Tuesday at 5 p.m. is an hour with DJ Scotty Rocker where families show off their costumes and dance moves.

On Wednesday the children’s department offers treats and games during Syracuse’s trick-or-treat hours of 6 to 8 p.m. Come in from the cold for a carnival of child friendly games and a visit to the pumpkin patch.

The morning story time will still give children a chance to read and talk about farm animals at 10:30 a.m. but the children’s department is closing at noon on Wednesday.

Monthly Highlights

This week WorkOne is offering classes by the computers from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Computers will be reserved to provide additional guidance with job searches and other job-related skills.

People continue to meet on Thursdays at 9 a.m. for a walk on the trails followed by advanced chair yoga at the Syracuse Library at 9:30 a.m. Inclement weather will relocate the walk to meet at the Community Center.

At 10:15 a.m. Nov. 1, the Friends meet after yoga to talk about their winter activities. The Friends welcome people to visit and meet others interested in library activities.

Just Helping

The Syracuse Library is making it easier to connect with databases and services. The links page on the website has connecting links for a variety of topics from free information providers. A new source of medical information is the Merck Manual and Merck Veterinary Guide.

This is the first year of operation for the Parkview Health and Ronald McDonald Care Mobile that provides free healthcare services to children ages 5 and under. They will be using the Syracuse Library’s parking lot and are offering only walk-in services. Parents are welcome to sip hot chocolate and wait inside the library.

The mobile is coming on Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. All information about their services is on the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile website.

People who have signed up for homebound service will be getting their first delivery of library check-outs. This is a service where deliveries will be made every three weeks and does not prohibit the additional use of the library.
