'Modern Millie' Arrives Friday On Stage At WCHS

Show times for the production, “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8 for students and senior citizens, and $12 for adults.
Director Dana McAfee said, “It’s kind of a fun homage to the ’20s. The music is very jazzy. The characters are very much that time period. We’re doing complicated dancing, tapping. There’s a mix of departments working with us – the orchestra, dance and students from the tech theater class.”
In the musical, which takes place in Manhattan in 1922, a young flapper named Millie travels from Kansas to New York to find a job and marry a wealthy employer, even though she has an admiration for a poor paperclip salesman by the name of Jimmy.

She makes up her mind to marry company man Trevor Graydon, but he has his eye on Millie’s roommate, Dorothy Brown.
As everyone is trying to find love, Mrs. Meers – the evil landlord – attempts to sell orphaned Dorothy into white slavery.
“Thoroughly Modern Millie” won six Tony Awards in 2002, including Best Musical. It was based on the 1967 Academy Award-winning movie of the same name.

Musical director is Thomas Hall. Assistant director and costumes is Jean Beeson, with Tori Montgomery as choreographer. Conductor of the orchestra pit is Joseph Peloza.
Production/set design are Dan Wray and Jim Cox, with Dannielle Robertson as prop designer and builder.
Stage manager is Erin Mills, and assistant stage manager is Braxton Stewart. Technical manager is Leonard Gagnon, with Noah Adams, Neeley Belles, Ben Edwards and Austin Lackey on lights and sound.
