Storyteller Terry Lynch kicks off the Summer Reading Program at North Webster Community Public Library with his Pirate Tales show at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Performing as Captain Taffy, Lynch will entertain the kids with rollicking pirate stories from around the world. The show is open to all children. Those signed up for the Summer Reading Program should bring their reading passports to get stamped for extra credit toward prizes.

Starting Friday, registrations will be accepted for the youth department’s first Friday Family Food and Fun on June 8 with a choice of three time sessions offered at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Kids will have fun learning about percussion instruments as they move through four stations of crafts, activities and snacks. Advance registration is required to attend with class size limited.

Musical Experience Times begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday and will be held every Monday and Thursday throughout June and July. It’s an informal time of children experiencing various styles of music, musical sounds and instruments. No registration is required; just come and enjoy.

Adults will learn about nature’s music makers at the Birds of Indiana program at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Indiana Master Naturalist and photographer Wayne Pope will share his knowledge and passion for these featured creatures through narrative and photography. The program is free and open to all adults.

Grown-Up Field Trip

The adult services department is planning a field trip to Elkhart on June 12. Leaving the library at 9 a.m., the group will travel by carpool to tour the historic 1908 Ruthmere Mansion and 1848 Beardsley House and visit the Wellfield Botanic Gardens. Advance registration is required to attend with limited space available.

Participants should bring along $23 for admission fees, plus extra money for lunch and gift shops. Sign up at the circulation desk or call 574-834-7122. The field trip is for adults only.

Openings are still available for the Craft-A-Card Workshop at 10:30 a.m. June 8, and Coffee and Canvas at 10:30 a.m. June 9.

The card workshop cost is $10 and includes supplies for making three summer greeting cards. Coffee and Canvas cost is $20 and includes supplies for painting a 12” x12” sunflower wood piece with choice of wording.

The classes are for adults only and both classes require advance registration with non-refundable payment due at registration.
