ETNA GREEN — The Etna Green Alumni Association met for its 101st meeting on May 12.

Steve and Joyce Sechrist hosted a social time as alumni began arriving through the Museum entrance at 4:30 p.m. A time of visiting, reminiscing and registration lasted until dinner was served at 6 p.m.

President Al Sharkey called the group to order followed by Vice President Bob Huffman leading the group in the pledge to the American flag and Steve Sechrist, prayer. Del Mar, Nappanee, catered a ham and Swiss steak dinner for the group.

Dr. Ric and Gracie Lovelady, Warsaw, provided dinner music. Ric played several banjos, a harmonica and the mandolin, while Gracie played the electronic saxophone. They presented a short music program before the business meeting.

A moment of silence and ringing of the school bell was observed for alumni who had died since May 2017: Alvin Neal, Class of 1936; Lyal Harman, 1939; Evelyn Irene "Nanny" Welty, 1943; Max E. Sparks and Bonnie Jean Hepler, 1945; Loften Harman, 1946; Doris Kring Ley, 1948; Fern Stutzman Yoder, 1956; Andrew Hoffer, 1954; and Carl Klinefelter, 1952.

Fifty-three alumni answered to the roll call of classes, with the classes of 1948, 1953, 1958 and 1963 being honor classes.

Dick Long was elected president; Bob Huffman, vice president; Mary Ann Dawalt Stine, secretary; and Donna Miner Kintzel, treasurer. The officers agreed to organize the May 11, 2019, meeting, with honor classes being 1944, 1949, 1954 and 1959.

R.B. Conley encouraged the veterans to support the Etna Green Memorial Day services.

Table decorations of potted purple and white petunias were given away at random.

The evening ended with the singing of the school fight song.
