Registered therapy dogs Echo and Suzie will be at the library from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 6, for Paws-To-Read. Children can sign up in advance for a 15-minute one-on-one reading session with either Echo or Suzie.
Reading to therapy dogs provides kids with an opportunity to practice their oral reading skills in a relaxed, non-judgemental environment. The dogs don’t care if a child stumbles over a word or two; they just like the attention. To secure an appointment for your child, contact the youth services desk.
Children who have not learned to read yet can sign up for Pre-Reader Paws classes held 3 p.m. every Tuesday. The children have fun learning sight words with Echo along with activities, games, crafts and puzzles. Pre-registration is required.
Family Bingo is 1 p.m. July 5. Kids of all ages are welcome to come and play. With lots of prizes to give away, everyone wins.
Children who are registered for the summer reading program and bring their reading passports can earn extra credit toward reading prizes.
Got a sewing project to complete or mending that needs done? Bring your sewing to the library and use the library’s new Singer programmable sewing machine for free. A private sewing room is located in the northwest corner of the library and is available throughout the day Wednesday through Saturday every week.
The sewing room is particularly handy for summer residents or vacationers who left their sewing machines at home or someone who wants to learn to sew. You don’t even need a library card to use it. Just sign in at the circulation desk. Sewing supplies are not provided.
In observance of Independence Day, the library will be closed Wednesday.
