Civil War Discussion Wednesday
June 8, 2018 at 7:48 p.m.
Activities at the Syracuse Public Library include:
Civil War And Chemistry
Coming to the Syracuse Library is an expert on the Civil War as told through letters from a Vermont soldier and a book discussion about a young girl who solves mysteries with chemistry. Both are looking back to an earlier time and are based on a book.
Carleton Young wrote “Voices in the Attic” after viewing the locations that came from a Civil War correspondence between a Ver-mont family and their soldiers. Young is a history scholar and through serendipity he inherited the packet of letters.
His further research recorded both the hand-written letters adding the context of the war. Young is presenting the letters in a slideshow presentation at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Book Club
A new book club is comparing their reactions to the first in a series of Flavia deLuce stories with “Sweetness At The Bottom Of The Pie”. An hour discussion is at 4:30 p.m. Monday. Whether the book is a new favorite or didn’t seem that good, everyone is invited to come, meet other people, and share authors and titles that are fun, fiction, and well-written.
Summer in Full Swing
The mornings for the weeks of summer look like this. Tuesdays for adults, easy chair yoga at 10:15 a.m. Free-play time for kids on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. with lots of toys brought into the meeting room. Adults walk and have advanced yoga at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Thursdays. Each Friday at 10:30 a.m. a family movie is shown.
The mid-day meetings at 2 p.m. for children are Make It crafts on Mondays. Tuesday is special programs day. The June 12 program is for song requests and a dance out with DJ Scotty Rocher. Read to Bailey the dog on Wednesdays. Tea time themes discover Disney music around the world and meet every Thursday.
The evening lineup includes a new monthly chess time for kids, teens and adults at 6 p.m. June 12. The weekly Frankenstein book club for teens meeting on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Drop in attendance is accepted, but signing up for the craft portion insures enough materials for the related craft projects. Teens who have signed up to make jewelry are reminded to come at 5 p.m. June 14.
