“It’s a Magical World of Music” when world traveler, magician and entertainer Jim Merrills performs at North Webster Community Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Combining music, photos and magic, Merrills explores the musical instruments and traditions of different cultures around the world in an entertaining and educational show. Part of the library’s summer reading program, the event is free and open to all children and their families.

Kids can experience music up close in an informal setting during Musical Experience Times at 10:30 a.m. Monday and July 26. On Monday, Kevin Lipsey will play his guitar and sing songs with the children while Susan Leach and Jan Laurent will entertain on the ukulele and dulcimer on July 26.

Also on Thursday, families can catch a free movie matinee at the library with two showings at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. of an animated musical comedy about a chipmunk and his two pals. The movie is rated “G” with free popcorn for everyone.

There is still time left to earn reading prizes in the summer reading program which ends July 28. Kids who have not yet signed up can still do so and earn prizes for every five hours of reading they complete by July 28.

Adults still have time to get involved in this month’s Voyager Book Club that meets at 10 a.m. Monday. The group will be discussing children’s nursery rhymes; so check out a book of classic children’s poems, bring it to Voyager Book Club and share what you have read.
