Great Wall Restaurant Closes

After 29 years in business, Joni Feng, the owner of Great Wall, 2308 E. Center St., Warsaw, has retired for health reasons.

The locally famous Chinese restaurant closed Sunday.

Feng said she’s sold the building and another restaurant will soon open at that location. The decision to close wasn’t made suddenly or easily, but after years of hard work, she said it was time to take a break from the day-to-day grind.

“We’ve thought about it for a few years now, and our children have graduated from college,” she said. “We’ve been working so hard, 16 hours every day. I have a little health issue here and there, and I decided I don’t want to work that hard anymore. I couldn’t handle the stress every single day of my life.”

“At this point I?have to think of myself, and decided at this point I?have to find myself a way to relieve my (health) problems. It’s hard to ask someone to cover my schedule and running a restaurant is a big responsibility,” she said.

Feng made a point to mention her gratitude to all the customers who have come to the restaurant for one last meal and to wish her well.

“In the last few years so many people have come to say goodbye, and I want to say thanks for the greatest 29 years to all the Warsaw people and from Winona Lake,” she said. “The support from the community has been great for 29 years. I really, truly appreciate all the customers who have come to say goodbye to me.”
