Los Angeles-based filmmaker Andrew Morgan chose several Kosciusko County locationa to shoot his film, “Long Gone By.”
According to Production Director Matt Devel, when he heard that his longtime friend was searching for a location for the film, he suggested taking a look at this mid-western town.
Devel said, “I moved here four years ago and knew this setting was just what Andrew would want.” The first step, according to Devel, was to drive hundreds of miles around the area to choose the best locations.
Two other filming sites are at the Horizon Bank in Leesburg and a bank in Mentone.
If things progress without any major delays, the film could be ready for entry into the film festival circuit by this fall. Local filming will continue through Wednesday.
Devel indicated that many movies are picked up at the independent festivals. At some point, the movie being filmed here could be pitched to Netflix.
Although it is a long ways off, Devel said they anticipate showing the finished project in a local theater.
Filming on Wednesday included scenes featuring an actress from Los Angeles playing a high school student.
Students trying out for extra parts on Wednesday were asked to wear clothing that they would normally wear to school along with a backpack. Boys who were comfortable playing basketball were encouraged to volunteer for the last shooting of the day.
Those interested in participating by volunteering as extras can contact producer Emily Morgan at [email protected].
