Young Adult Area
For starters, WCPL has moved its young adult section to the area near the reference desk. This not only gives more shelf space, it has allowed the library to create a space for teen and young adult readers to call their own.
The most recent addition to the new YA area is a set of restaurant-style booths and tables. Chairs also allow readers to sit in comfort as they enjoy their books. Meanwhile, the library is looking into new lighting options for this area, as well as “book menus” for readers’ convenience.
“I'm really excited about the new seating options in the Young Adult area,” Anna Jackson, young adult librarian, said. “When we asked students what they wanted most in a new YA location, the big thing was more table space. The booth seating will allow for more group collaboration and will still be flexible for individuals who want a place to read or study.”
Cake Pans
While libraries are typically associated with books, patrons will find WCPL’s newest collection to be a “piece of cake.”
This, of course, refers to the library’s new cake pan collection. Patrons can choose from a paw print, a pony, a turkey, Disney’s “Elsa,” Garfield, Mickey Mouse, My Little Pony, SpongeBob SquarePants, a number one, an enchanted castle, a snowman, an evergreen tree and a teddy bear. Layered cake pans are also available.
Of course, just like books, the pans have due dates, so patrons will need to make sure they are used, washed and returned on time.
Descriptions of each pan are available via the library’s catalog. Images are available at www.warsawlibrary.org, under “books, etc.”
Lynda.com
WCPL patrons can now take advantage of a variety of online learning through Lynda.com, which provides access to more than 6,000 free instructional videos.
A link is available via the library’s website under “reference,” “online resources.” Users will need to enter their library card number and four-digit PIN. First-time users will need to create an account. From there, they can access online instructional videos in subjects like Microsoft Office programs, Adobe programs, project management, networking for sales professionals, Photoshop, WordPress essentials, time management, customer service, graphic design and thousands more.
There are also four skill levels to choose from, including beginner, intermediate, advanced and appropriate for all.
