Plenty Of Holiday Break Activities Planned At Syracuse Library

The Syracuse Library’s children’s department is giving families something to do over the holiday break.

At 2 p.m. Dec. 26 is a movie and popcorn day. Play Bingo on Thursday at 2 p.m. and on Friday at 2 p.m., bake and frost cookies.

The next week at 2 p.m. there are fun times on Jan. 2 with musical activities. Thursday is a make-a-craft day and board games are set-up in the comfortable areas of the children’s department on Jan. 4.

The DVD’s are the fastest growing collection at the Syracuse Library,  with many complete television series. Now is the time to give those shows that sound interesting a try. Checkout times for movies are one week.

The revival of Doctor Who restarted 13 years ago. The complete series is available for home viewing. A monthly meeting showcases an episode with discussion and activities. The group is in their fourth year and welcomes new people to enjoy the reboot. The next family-friendly meeting is at 6 p.m. Dec. 26.

Finishing December

WorkOne is here to help with unemployment claims from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and Dec. 26.

When the library is open, the Tuesday and Thursday chair yoga will be offered. Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. and Thursdays to walk at 9 a.m. and yoga at 9:30 a.m. Restorative chair yoga meets Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

Decluttering support is maintaining a regular schedule through the end of the year. The next meeting is at 1 p.m. Tuesday. This is a good time of year to go through boxes and closets.

The library is closed on New Year’s so the January meetings will shift to the 8th and 22nd.

Harry Potter craft club is making a string art picture of Harry’s glasses at 5 p.m. Tuesday. This is a fun way for teens to connect with other Potter fans. Teens have a video gaming night at 5 p.m. Dec. 20. Players either compete on Super Smash Brothers on the Wii U or on games on the Xbox. The next week, at 5 p.m. Dec. 27, Anime movie night meets.

The comfort food book club is starting up with a new time. Food From Fiction will meet on the first Friday of the month at 1 p.m. to talk about the bakery in Meet Me at the Cupcake Café. Copies are available for checkout to prepare for the Jan. 4 meeting.
