Reindeer Program
Bring the whole family to the community building in Milford, 111 S, Main St., to see animals from the North Pole from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13. When the program is over you are welcome to take a picture with the live reindeer.
Come and meet Angel Angie the Elf and some of her very special friends.
This program usually draws a large crowd, so be prepared to wait your turn to get your photo with the reindeer. There may even be a treat from Santa himself.
Knitting Club
Join the members of the Knitting Club from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 20 to work on that Christmas project, crochet a blanket for the cold weather, or complete your existing project.
New members are always welcome. The members will teach anyone interested how to knit and crochet. No library card or registration needed.
Book Buddy Kits
Children won’t be bored at home this winter break with our book buddy kits. They are filled with books and toys and have a variety of themes. There are several different kits to choose from which will spark your child’s imagination. They can pretend to be a construction worker, a chef, a musician and more.
The fun never ends with our book buddy kits. Kits are checked out for three weeks.
Staff Recommendation
Shari Lambert, library clerk, recommends reading the just-released “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Meltdown” by Jeff Kinney. Greg and Rowley’s school gets shut down due to snow and they get caught in the crosshairs of the neighborhoods epic snowball war.
The book can be found under “Ji Kin” in the new juvenile fiction section. Of course, staff members are always happy to help you find whatever you need.
Cooking Program Recap
Nine people enjoyed the nutrition program “Cooking for One or Two” at the library on Nov. 26. Jackie Franks, Kosciusko County HHS educator, presented a program filled with ideas for healthy cooking, shopping and keeping the cost low for making meals for one or two people.
With fewer people at home, you should look at the size of your pots and pans. Are they huge? Are you used to cooking for a family of five or six people? Maybe downsizing would be more cost effective. Remember, if you are cooking for one, you are shopping for one. Buying in bulk may not work for you anymore.
You could shop with a friend and split some larger purchases so there is less waste. Plan on having leftovers or freezing some of what you cook.
Ms. Franks had a handout filled with delicious recipes, like stuffed peppers for two and oven-crisped potatoes.
Margaret Cousins won a copy of the book “The Cozy Table” by Dana DeVolk. Barb Wuthrich won a copy of “Taste of Home Cooking for 2.” Both of these books are available to check out at the library.
Our next nutrition program will be in February.
