Holiday Events And Special Hours Highlight December In Syracuse

“Holidays on Ice,” favorite holiday treats and special crafts make December a festive place at the Syracuse Library.

The library is opening a couple of hours later, at noon Dec. 14, for a staff breakfast. Christmas closings are Dec. 24-25, and New Year’s closings are Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

David Sedaris made his debut as a big-time writer with his tale of working as an elf at Macy’s in Santa Land. The Turkey Creek Readers are listening to Sedaris, and reading and discussing “Holidays on Ice” at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

“Magnolia Cooking Club” is sharing favorite recipes of holiday treats. Besides sampling the treats, those attending have a special end-of-year door prize. The monthly meeting is at 4 p.m. Dec. 12.   

Highlights Of The Week

Chair yoga meets through December and on through the new year.

Pyramid yoga, an easy way to begin, meets on Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m.

Walk and advanced chair yoga meets on Thursdays at 9 a.m. at the Community Center and 9:30 a.m. at the Syracuse Library.

Restorative chair yoga is meeting on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Center.

Chess is a game that’s easy to learn yet takes a lifetime to master. Play chess and enjoy the company and experience of others at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

WorkOne will be setting up for its weekly services by the computers from 1  to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The writing workshop has a meeting at 11 a.m. Dec. 15. Any type or skill of writer is welcome to come to the group for encouragement and feedback.

Kids During the Holiday Break

The children’s department has daily movies, crafts, cooking and game times planned at the end of December and beginning of January. Grandparents get assistance keeping everyone entertained on the cold days of December.
