For those not familiar with Harry Potter lingo, a “muggle” is a human who is not a witch or a wizard. This year marks the anniversary of the U.S. release of the first book in J.K. Rowling’s bestselling Harry Potter series, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” In observance, WCPL will host themed activities throughout the day.

For anyone wondering which Hogwarts house he or she belongs in, a sorting hat challenge will finally answer that question. WCPL will also present Hogwarts classes, including potions, history of magic, transfiguration and care of magical creatures.
Potions with “Professor Snape” begins every half-hour. During “History of Magic,” Potter enthusiasts will have the chance to test their knowledge with a quiz and enter a drawing for a prize.
During transfiguration class, participants will create animal masks to transform into their favorite animagus. Care of magical creatures will include a building-wide scavenger hunt based on “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” Those who locate all of the creatures can enter a prize drawing.
Don’t have a magic wand? No problem! Participants will be able to make their own.
While there will not be a Quidditch tournament, there will be other Harry Potter-themed games, including Wizards Chess, Harry Potter “Would-You-Rather.” Other activities are still in the planning stages.
Guests will also be able to browse Diagon Alley, where they can choose a Harry Potter bookmark at Flourish and Blott’s and sample Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans at Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes. They will also get to meet Hedwig the owl at Eeylop’s Owl Emporium.
A special drawing will also take place for those who come in costume.
Additional activities will be added to the list as planning continues.
