Lady Tigers Fall To Concord In NLC Girls Soccer
Warsaw’s hope for an undefeated Northern Lakes Conference girls soccer season were dashed in a 2-1 loss to Concord Thursday night.
Lady Tiger coach Jon Hoover said his team dominated statistically after falling behind by a goal 18 minutes in. Concord scored an insurance goal with 13 minutes to play, and Bailey Buhrt countered with a goal a minute later.
From there Concord managed the clock to secure the win.
“Our lack of discipline got the best of us tonight, which led to opportunities for our opponent,” Hoover said. We weren’t as sharp as we should have been, and in our conference, you can’t create chances for your opponent without getting burned.
“Our team fought hard to the end … we had several chances to either tie or win the game. Their keeper had 16 saves … we should have done better putting the ball into the corners while shooting. Brenna Buhrt’s goal was one of the prettiest shots I’ve seen for a while.
“We’re going to take this loss and allow it to refine us as a team, and we’ll need to do it quickly because we have a very talented Noblesville team coming to town Saturday.”
The junior varsity game went Warsaw’s way, 1-0 over the Lady Minutemen. Sarah Ocock scored the game-winner for the Lady Tigers.
Warsaw will take a 6-3-1 record into Saturday’s non-conference match.
Lady Squires Play To Draw
MARION – Manchester junior goalkeeper Kiera Stacy recorded a shutout, enabling the Lady Squires to play to a scoreless draw at Eastbrook Thursday evening.
Stacy was credited with 14 saves in the match. Carsyn Howard had four shots for the Lady Squires, with Emma Garriot, Bailey Mooney, Lex Donathan, Lainey Shock, and Julie Dalsager all getting off shots for Manchester.
The Lady Squires travel to Ligonier for a non-conference match with West Noble Saturday.
Squires Drop Close Match
MARION – Eastbrook’s goal in the first 15 minutes was enough to claim a 1-0 non-conference boys soccer win over Manchester Thursday night.
After being outshot 5-3 in the first half, Manchester took four shots in the last 40 minutes and held the Panthers without a shot.
Manchester will host Oak Hill on Monday.
Panthers Outlast Warriors
NAPPANEE – Ryan Edington scored a goal six minutes into the Northern Lakes Conference match with NorthWood, and again in the 60th minute. But the host Panthers won the boys soccer contest 5-3 Thursday.
Chris Pena assisted on Edington’s first goal. Layne Faught scored a tying goal at the 33-minute mark, evening the match at 2 going in to halftime.
Lambright assisted on Edington’s second goal as well.
“Hard fought game. Our boys showed moments of brilliance but not enought throughout,” Wawasee coach Jordan Sharp said. “I’m proud of the effort, and disappointed at some of the execution of play.”
Wawasee fell to 3-2-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Warriors host NLC foe Elkhart Memorial Monday.
