It’s ‘Assured Destruction’ For Select Theatre

All of the proceeds from the Warsaw Community High School Select Theatre’s program Friday and Saturday will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kosciusko County.

The show is titled “Mutually Assured Destruction.” It is a comedy consisting of 10 plays each lasting no more than 10 minutes about the subject of siblings, according to drama teacher and director Dana McAfee.

Every scene is set in a different decade – starting in 2015 and going back to 1922 – and shows siblings in situations where they are irritated with each other and how they work it out.

Start times for both performances is 7:30 p.m. in the WCHS Black Box Theatre.

Tickets are $10.

Each year the cast in the Select Theatre show chooses which charity to support, and this year they chose Big Brothers Big Sisters, McAfee said.

As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers and children, ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country, according to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana website. It develops positive relationships that have a lasting effect on young people. More information about the organization can be found online at www.bbbsnei.org.

Select Theatre is an audition-only class, which means students have to audition to get into the class. It’s also the only yearlong theater class at WCHS. All others are only a semester.

Twenty-five students make up the cast and crew.

The cast, in order of appearance, are: Michael Wegler as Julian; Anna Wainscott, Tara; Sophia Schlitt, Jo; Patrick Priest, Sam; Chloe Hoskins, Megan/Jessica; Rachel Smith, April/Andrea; Lydia Harrison, Christy; Macy Miller, Rachel; Katie Lauck, Carol; Nate Wilcox, Tim; Kyle Kuhn, Richard; Kylee Gudeman, Mary; Payne Rager, Jimmy; William Robison, Charlie; Avery Remocaldo, Johnny; NaevEnya Moore, Maggie; Annalise Harstine, Evelyn; and Cassidy Neubaum as Virginia.

The student crew includes, lights and sound: Bella Gigous, Nathan Pollnow; and stage crew: Kyleigh Herring, Tyler McClone and Danie Miner.

Up next, the WCHS Drama Department will present “Mary Poppins” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 and 18 and 2:30 p.m. Nov. 19. Tickets are $8 for students and senior citizens and $12 for adults. Tickets go on sale Oct. 30 weekdays in the box office or call 574-371-5040.
