These teams are participating in the key fundraiser of the American Cancer Society. They’re walking to remind us that cancer never sleeps.
And though fighting cancer is serious business, Saturday’s Relay shows the joyful side of that battle: celebrating those who have overcome the disease.
You don’t have to be on a Relay team to join the celebration. Indeed, there’s plenty for visitors to do and see, all while helping a good cause.
Each Relay team will have a themed campsite as part of its fundraising efforts. There will be food, games, a DJ and plenty of activities. Other events include hayrides, rock climbing and a flea market. A silent auction is planned from 1 to 7 p.m.
Need a haircut? Ready for a change? Haircuts for Hope will give haircuts for donations from 1 to 4 p.m. All donations will go toward cancer research. In addition, hair donations of 10 inches or longer will go to Wigs For Kids or Pantene Beautiful Lengths to make wigs for cancer patients.
The theme of this year’s Relay is Hope for the Holidays. Team registration begins at 10 a.m., and the opening ceremony will start at noon.
All activities will take place at Quaker Haven Camp, 111 EMS D16 Lane, Syracuse (Dewart Lake). If it rains, activities will move into the gym.
