NORTH MANCHESTER — Based on the Oscar-winning animation film, “Shrek the Musical” is the Tony Award-winning adventure-filled musical playing at Manchester Jr.-Sr. High School’s Performing Arts Center Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
An unlikely hero, the ogre Shrek finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside the wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess they are sent to rescue, according to a news release from Manchester Schools.
“‘Shrek the Musical’ brings the beloved characters you know from the film to life on their way to discovering the big bright beautiful world at the end of this fabulously fresh storybook journey. ‘Shrek the Musical’ is irreverent fun for the whole family. The show includes tap dancing rats and a 22-foot long dragon that flies,” the release states.
It is directed by Marilyn Sexton Mason and Jennifer Reichenbach.
Mason said, “The show is about loneliness and finding community, learning to accept ourselves and those who are different than us and celebrating our differences.”
Production staff includes Jeff Huber, pit orchestra conductor; Clayton Marcum, choreographer; Kelsy Presl, technical coordinator; Cheryl Working and Steve Johnson, set design and construction; Chloe Steele, set decoration; Lisa Rice, props; and Eileen Sklar, costuming.
The cast features MJSHS students Carlos Cervera as Shrek, Lindsay Rice as Princess Fiona, Nathan Self as Donkey, Ben Reichenbach as Lord Farquaad, Beatrice Snavely as Pinocchio, Tasha Brubaker as Gingy, and Tahnee Fuentes as the Dragon.
Also in the cast are Kelsey Bowers, Kaylee Brubaker, Clara Burdette, Emma Burlingame, Isaac Cochran, Izzy Diaz, Heath Dierks, Isa Dockter, Jade Dotson, Kamryn Durden, Hunter Finnegan, Leah Gatchel, Ozrik Gilbert, Hannah Gish, Chloe Leckrone, Devin Marcum, Taylor McLaughlin, Lillian Myers, Christine Niccum, Carmah Parr, Montgomery Pattison, Chase Porter, Rebekah Pyle, Sam Reichenbach, Madisyn Schmidt, Justin Self, Riley Shaneberger, Emma Sklar, Avery Snyder, Madison Sorg, John Spangle, Sarah Wagner, Caleigh Zolman, Trinity Akins and Miriam Hedstrom-Struble.
Technical crew and backstage crew include MJSHS students Konrad Borgmann, Noah Stafford, Jacob Slavkin, Jonah Shenefield, Adrian Garza, Naomi Justice, Richard Honeycutt, Tyler Hudson and Jordan Hicks.
The pit orchestra includes MJSHS students Keauna Allen, Sarah Pyle, Lexi Webb, and Oliver Labuda. Also playing in the pit are community members Toby Tobias, Cathy Huber and Carter Vernon.
