WCHS One-Act Plays Set For Friday Night

Including actors, directors and tech crew, drama teacher Dana McAfee estimates there are 95 to 100 students involved in the six one-acts.
Tickets are $6 per person.
Up first will be the play “No Show,” written by Alan Haehnet. McAfee provided a brief synopsis, saying it’s about a drama class that was given an assignment but didn’t realize it was the night of the performance and they’re not ready.
Directed by Sam Engle and Brooke Neubaum, the cast includes Caleb Childers as Jack; Ethan Thompson, as Chris; Julianna Niebba, as Normie; Macy Miller, as Sally; Yvonne Castillo, as Jessica; Lilli Hertel, Sandra; Mallory Hooks, as Hannah; Annalise Harstine, as Shirley; Kendal Miller, as Rob; and Morgan Ashtari, as Chelsea.
“And What a Rummage Sale” by Arthur Leroy Kaser is about a rummage sale where everyone wants what everyone else has, McAfee said.
Lydia Deboest and Rachel Smith are directing the play starring Lucy Fahler as Catherine; Sophie Olson, as Jane; Lauren Housel, as Susie; Katie Jones, as Dora; Emmalee Cole, as Mrs. Smullens; Megan Dawson, as Mrs. Tarber; Zaya Henn, as Mrs. Clement; Katharine Engler, as Mrs. Friedman; Anna Craig, as Mrs. Wertz; Kyleigh Herring,?as Mrs. Stack; and Natalie Lindquist as Mrs. Blakeman.
“Why Do We Laugh” by Stephen Gregg looks at two characters at four stages of their lives, from elementary school to the golden years.
Three students – Kendall Cox, Sara Hohman and Emma Tomasik – are directing the one-act. It features Tyler McClone as Andrew age 5; Sydney Gause, as Meredith, age 6; Will Bibler, as Andrew age 15; Addison Marshall, as Meredith age 16; Riley Hogenson, Andrew age 44; Courtney Thompson, as Meredith age 45; Patrick Priest, as Andrew age 66; and NaevEnya Moore as Meredith age 67.
After a 10-minute intermission, the second half of the one-acts start off with “Speed Date” by Janet Allard. Two characters meet different people while taking part in a speed date event.
Directed by Bailey Berelsman and Aaron Wainscott, the cast includes Brynn Durecki as Laura; Nathan Freeman, as John; AnnaMarie Kelly, as clown; Olivia Deeter, as Jennifer; Madi Hales, as Mary; Nate Wilcox, as Sean; Abigail Seese, as Kristen; Anna Sullivan, as Velma; Michael Lehman, as Francois; Dominic Smith, as Brad; and Alyse Allen, Daniela Cervantes, Hayden Gerst, Pedro Monsivias, Payne Rager and Kara Weeks as speed daters.
“How to Get Rid of a Housemother” by Tim Kelly is about a sorority that gets the news it’s getting a new housemother from the military. The sorority girls make plans to get rid of her.
Gabi Bradley and Rachael Kuhn are directing “Housemother.” Claire Rich is playing Ellen; Michelle Apeland, as Billie Jo; Hunter Haines, as Major Curtis; Maren Andrews, as Patsy; Anna Wainscott, as Liz; Cassidy Neubaum, as Suzan; Mack Garrett, as Nancy; Madi Howard, as Jessica; and Taylor Biberstine as Connie.
The last one-act, “Raising Funds,” was written by student directors Jonathan Harstine and Chasen Madsen along with Jordan Fredericks. McAfee said the original play is about a competition between school clubs to sell the most ads with the winning club getting the classroom of their choice for their club to meet in. There’s a lot of twists and turns along the way.
The big cast includes Kyle Rickert as Dillon; Katie Lauck, as Jane; Josh Fisher, as Preston; Olivia James, as Karen; Deanna Folsom, as Jen; Cassidy Neubaum, as Grace; Briley Gargis, as Devon; Ellen Davenport, as Sussane; Brock Hogenson, as Riley; Tyrese Taylor, as Lincoln; Hope Tabor, as old lady; Jacob Shapiro, as Mr. Morton; Soumya Vijayraj, as little girl; Phoebe Schmidt, as Luna; Andrew Hawblitzel, as Willow; and Danie Miner as Angel.
The Junior ROTC are Alyse Allen, Carson Archer, Avery Remocaldo and Bailey Roulo.
The cosplay/marching band is made up of Griffin Boschet, Morgan Burkholder, Mahalabelle Gigous, Mackenzie Hamilton, Wakelyn Hudson, Alyssa Madden, Sydney Marshall, Kennedy Moore, Emily Oler, Leah Reinholt and Eleanor Williamson.
