Of the five competitions Grindle participated in, he received first place in open, standard, polka and ethic/folk solos; and second place in the Amy Hatfield Memorial Young Accordionists Scholarship competition.
He participated in the adult festival orchestra as the youngest player. Grindle said being around national and internationally acclaimed musicians was very exciting.
The five-day annual festival’s activities included concerts, workshops, competitions and banquets with the closing ceremonies featuring a full accordion orchestra.
He received his first miniature accordion from his grandparents, Bruce and Judy Grindle, Syracuse, while he was in the first grade. Formal lessons began about three years ago with classical accordionist Esther Lanting, Goshen. Lanting was a student of the world famous accordionist Anthony Galla-rini.
